Applying number formats is simple, just like other types of formatting, such as changing font colors. To apply a number format, first, select the cells you want to change. Then, choose the format you need.

There are two main ways to do this:

  1. Go to the Home tab. Click the Number Format drop-down menu in the Number group. Then, select the format you want.

  2. You can also click one of the quick number-formatting buttons below the drop-down menu.

Another way is to press Ctrl+1 on your keyboard to open more number-formatting options.

For example, if you apply the Currency format, it adds a dollar sign ($) and shows two decimal places for numbers.

When you select a cell with number formatting, you can see the real value in the formula bar. This value is used for calculations and formulas in the spreadsheet.
