A mobile device is any handheld computer. These devices are very portable and often small enough to hold in your hand. Some mobile devices, like tablets, e-readers, and smartphones, are powerful. They can do many things that a desktop or laptop computer can do.

Tablet Computers

Tablets are portable, like laptops. But they offer a different way to use a computer. The main difference is that tablets do not have keyboards or touchpads. Instead, the entire screen is touch-sensitive. You can type on a virtual keyboard and use your finger as a pointer.

Tablets cannot do everything a traditional computer can. Many people still need a desktop or laptop for certain programs. However, tablets are convenient and can work well as a second computer.

E-Readers

E-book readers, or e-readers, are like tablets. But they are mainly for reading e-books, which are digital books you can download. Popular e-readers include the Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, and Kobo. Most e-readers use an e-ink display. This screen is easier to read than a regular computer screen. You can even read in bright sunlight, just like with a paper book.

Smartphones

A smartphone is a more advanced version of a regular cell phone. It can make calls, send texts, and use voicemail. Smartphones can also connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi or a cellular network. To use a cellular network, you need to buy a monthly data plan.

With a smartphone, you can do things you usually do on a computer. This includes checking email, browsing the web, and shopping online. Most smartphones have a touch-sensitive screen. Instead of a physical keyboard, you use a virtual keyboard on the screen.

Smartphones often have other features. These include a high-quality camera, music and video players, and apps for many tasks. For many people, a smartphone can replace older devices like a laptop, digital camera, and music player.
