Sometimes, you may need to change your computer's settings. For example, you might want to update your desktop background or modify your internet settings.
Using the Settings App (Windows 10)
In Windows 10, most settings are in the Settings app, not the Control Panel.
To open the Settings app:
- Click the Start button.
- Select the gear icon (Settings).
Using the Control Panel
The Control Panel is still available in Windows 10.
To open the Control Panel in Windows 10:
- Type Control Panel in the search box near the Start button.
- Click the Control Panel app from the menu.
To open the Control Panel in Windows 8:
- Go to the Start screen.
- Type Control Panel and press Enter.
To open the Control Panel in Windows 7 or earlier:
- Click the Start button.
- Select Control Panel.
After opening the Control Panel, click on a setting to change it. For example, click Change desktop background to select a new wallpaper.
Changing Application Settings
You can also adjust settings for different applications.
Look for settings under:
- File > Options
- Tools > Options
- A separate Settings menu
Some applications may not have settings you can change.
