How to Disable Applications from Running on Startup

Your computer runs several programs when it starts. Some are necessary, but too many can slow it down. Disabling unnecessary startup programs can improve performance.

Think Before You Disable

Before turning off a startup program, check if you need it. Some programs are important for daily use or system function. If unsure, search online to learn more about the program.

Disable from Program Settings

Some programs have an option to enable or disable startup. Look for this setting in the program’s menu. If there is no option, you can use your operating system to manage startup programs.

Disable in Windows 8 and 10

  1. Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  2. Click the Startup tab.
  3. Select a program and click Disable.

Disable in Windows 7 and Earlier

  2. In the System Configuration window, click the Startup tab.
