Indents and tabs are powerful tools for positioning text.

Setting indents.

Indents are used to set temporary left and right margins for the paragraph. They move text inwards from the right & left edges of a margin.

You can set indents by:
 Typing indent values in the Paragraph dialog box, or
 Typing indent values on the Control palette in paragraph view.

Setting an indent using the Paragraph command;

1. Click an insertion point in a paragraph, or select the paragraphs whose indents you want to change.
2. Click on Type, then select Paragraph.
3. Under Indents, type the desired values for Left, First and Right indents, then click OK.

Setting an indent using the Control palette;

1. Select a paragraph or paragraphs you want to indent.
2. On Control palette, click the paragraph-view button.
3. Type the desired values for the indents in the Indent text box, then press the ENTER key.

Tabs position text at specific positions. They are used when you want to create a table, such that
when you press the TAB key, the cursor goes to the specified position in the tab stops.

To set tabs;

2. Click on Type, then select Indents/Tabs.

4. Drag the new tab marker along the ruler to position the different tab stops at the desired points.
5. If you want the tab leader, click the Leader button, then choose the type of leader you want.
