Text boxes help highlight important text. They also make it easy to move text around in a document. You can format text boxes with different styles and effects.

How to Insert a Text Box
- Click the Insert tab.
- Select Text Box in the Text group.
- A menu will appear. Click Draw Text Box.
- Click and drag on the document to create a text box.
- The cursor will appear inside the box. Start typing your text.
- To format the text, use the Home or Format tab.
You can also use built-in text boxes. These have preset styles and sizes. If you choose one, it will appear automatically.
How to Move a Text Box
- Click on the text box.
- Place the mouse pointer on the edge of the box. It will turn into a cross with arrows.
- Click and drag the box to a new position.
How to Resize a Text Box
- Click on the text box.
- Drag any of the small circles (handles) on the sides or corners.
- Adjust it to the size you want.
Changing the Look of a Text Box
Change the Style
- Click on the text box.
- Go to the Format tab.
- Click the More drop-down arrow in the Shape Styles group.
- Choose a style from the menu.
The text box will now have the new style. You can also change the fill color and outline using formatting options.
Change the Shape of a Text Box
- Click on the text box.
- Go to the Format tab.
- Click Edit Shape > Change Shape.
- Choose a new shape from the menu.
The text box will now appear in the selected shape.
